Chris Christie, by his own admission, entered lame-duck territory on Tuesday, signing his final budget after a bruising three-year run as New Jersey Governor. The same day, a collection of photos taken of Christie enjoying the beach with his family went viral online, sparking a new round of criticism against the Republican Governor. In the shots of the Governor enjoying the beach, taken by NJ Advanced Media photojournalist Andrew Mills, Christie is seen with his toes in the sand, sitting in a beach chair surrounded by his family.
The Photos That Sparked Controversy
The photos were taken on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Island Beach State Park in Seaside Park, New Jersey. Christie was at the beach with his wife, Mary Pat, and their four children. The photos show Christie relaxing in a beach chair, wearing shorts and a t-shirt. He is seen laughing and talking with his family. At the end of the weekend, an aerial photo showed Christie lounging in a beach chair surrounded by his family.
