Midfielder Ned Long Joins Collingwood Magpies
Former Hawthorn Hawk Signs with Collingwood
Collingwood have selected Midfielder Ned Long with Pick 19 in tonight's Mid-Season Draft. The 21-year-old was delisted by Hawthorn at the end of the 2022 season after playing one game for the club. Long had a breakout season in the VFL in 2022, averaging 25 disposals and 7 tackles per game. He also kicked 10 goals from 18 games.
Long's progression late in the season saw him earn a call-up to the senior side for Hawthorn's final game of the year. He had 15 disposals and 5 tackles in the game. Collingwood coach Craig McRae said Long was a player with "a lot of upside".
"He's a good size, he's a good runner and he's got good skills," McRae said. "He's still developing, but we think he's got the potential to be a really good player for us." Long is the second player to join Collingwood from Hawthorn in the past 12 months, following the trade of Ollie Henry in October.
