Southwest Airlines flight returns to Havana after bird strike

Engine problems force emergency landing

Passengers safe after plane hits birds

A Southwest Airlines flight from Havana to Fort Lauderdale was forced to return to Cuba on Sunday after it hit birds and suffered engine problems.

The plane, with 100 passengers and five crew members on board, was about an hour into its flight when it struck the birds.

The impact caused the plane's engine to catch fire, and the pilot was forced to turn back to Havana.

The plane landed safely at Jose Marti International Airport, and the passengers were evacuated via the emergency slides.

No one was injured in the incident.

Southwest Airlines said in a statement that it is investigating the incident.
