Portugal's Pepe Set to Break European Championship Age Record

Defender to Become Oldest Player at Major Tournament

41-Year-Old Pepe Ready to Make History

Leipzig, Germany - Portugal defender Pepe is poised to become the oldest player to compete in a UEFA European Championship, surpassing the current record holder, Ivica Olić, who was 39 years and 327 days old when he featured for Croatia in 2016.

Pepe, 41, has been a mainstay in the Portuguese defense since his debut in 2007, and he is expected to start for the Selecao in their opening match of Euro 2024 against Hungary on June 17th.

The FC Porto center-back has made 122 appearances for Portugal and is considered one of the most experienced and decorated defenders in Europe. He has won two league titles with Porto, two Copa del Rey trophies with Real Madrid, and the 2016 European Championship with Portugal.
