Starling Marte Hits Walk-Off Single

Marte's heroics give Mets a thrilling victory

Mets defeat Phillies 3-2 in thrilling fashion

Starling Marte's walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning lifted the New York Mets to a thrilling 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Mets and moved them to 29-26 on the season.

Marte's heroics came after the Phillies had tied the game in the top of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly by Bryce Harper. The Mets had taken a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a home run by Pete Alonso. The Phillies cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Kyle Schwarber.

The Mets bullpen was outstanding in relief of starter Taijuan Walker. Walker allowed two runs on five hits in 5 2/3 innings. Edwin Diaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 12th save of the season.

The Mets will now head to Atlanta to face the Braves in a three-game series beginning on Friday night.
